Essential Accessories For Remote Area Travel In Your Camper Trailer

by Harry Carroll

If you've just invested in a new camper trailer, then you are no doubt looking forward to heading off into the great beyond for a new adventure. Whether you're heading into the hot and dusty Outback, the remote and unpredictable wilderness of Tasmania, or somewhere in between, there are several camper trailer accessories that should be considered essential.

Communication equipment

If you're travelling a remote area, you mobile phone is unlikely to receive any coverage from telephone networks. It's vital that you have an effective means of communicating with friends and family to keep them updated on your location. You may also need to communicate with emergency services if you have an accident, you get bogged, or one of your party members becomes sick or is injured.

The two best options for remote communications are satellite phones and two-way radios. Two-way radios let you communicate with another party who also has a two-way radio. Satellite phones will allow you to make calls to any regular mobile phone or landline and also send text messages.

Recovery equipment

If you're in a remote area, far from help, and find yourself bogged or stuck, then you will need to have the appropriate equipment to get your vehicle back on the road. You'll need a wheel mount which can help you to gain traction in muddy or sandy soil.

It's also a good idea to have a winch for those situations where a wheel block is ineffective. The winch rope can be tethered to a tree or rock, allowing you to use the power from your motor to drag the vehicle out from where it's stuck.

Tyre repair kit

On rough terrain, your tyres can take a battering. Rocks, stones, and other debris can easily puncture your tyres and bring your adventure to a standstill. As well as the usual spare tyre and jack, it's essential to carry a comprehensive tyre repair kit just in case more than one tyre is punctured during your trip.

A good tyre repair kit should include tyre tube patches, rubber tyre cement, a portable wrench kit, a portable tyre inflator/deflator, and an auto bead breaker which allows you to remove the tyre from the wheel without damaging either component. You can buy all of these items individually to make up your own kit or you can find a ready-made kit from most camper trailer outlets.

These camper trailer accessories should be considered essential and you shouldn't head off on a trip to a remote area without them. They will be invaluable if you find yourself in a difficult situation, and they may even save your life.

Camping Secrets: Tips And Tricks From The Wilderness

Hello out there. I'm Jason. As an ecologist, I get to travel to some amazing places. I specialise in researching endangered animals, so my job can involve climbing mountains, travelling to remote islands or trekking through forests. Of course, the research can sometimes take weeks or even months. I am therefore always on the lookout for any new camping gear which helps me reduce any hardships. My fellow researchers often follow my lead in which gear to buy. In addition, I have quite a few adventurous friends who beg me to direct them to secret camping spots. I decided that this blog might be the best way to let people know some of the camping tips and tricks I've picked up. I hope that my experience proves useful for your next trip.
